I have two Motorola SP50s UHF that are non programmed but I am sill able to pick up other peoples signals the problem is that I have to point the antennas toward the source. Is it because they are outside the 60Hz +- threshold, out of range or are the antennas faulty. I cant imagine both antennas being faulty. Bear in mind I don’t know what the frequencies are. I believe the signals are on the edge of the +-Hz range of my radio but I’m not sure.
So your saying it chooses the greatest signal and becomes biased to it?

Handheld 2-way radios (transceiver, walkie/talkie or whatever) are designed to be omni-directional. Due to the design limitations for portable radios, antennas for these devices tend to become uni-directional when "pointed" in the direction of a single signal source when there are multiple sources for the "same type" of signal.
Does that make any sense to you?
UPDATE: Well, when many things that are the same communicate using the same type of signaling there may be only signal that you are interested in. From that perspective any one thing is the greatest of them all. It may not be the most powerful in terms of energy so you will have to focus on that one signal in order to filter out all others.
