Why is there a crackling noise on the 2 way radio system we have in our taxis. ?

The interference/noise is so bad that sometimes we cant hear the operator speaking. It sound like we are way out of range but we have used this system for 8 years (problem free).We have had all the radios, aeriel and base unit checked and there doesn’t appear to be a fault with those. Can anyone give me any idea as to what could be the problem, thank you.

    What is a good 2-way radio to take on a cruise ship?

    I have a mentally handicapped son that can get around pretty well but has some limitations. I want him to have as much freedom as possible and one way to do that on an upcoming cruise is to buy and teach him to use a 2-way radio (also he keeps horses on our farm and it would be nice to stay in touch when he is riding and feeding). Can anyone suggest a inexpensive radio that will work well on a cruise ship and maybe in port?
